the wattleseed...
symbolises new beginnings,
hope and renewal

At Wattleseed Counselling, our therapeutic practice is grounded in this symbolism. We recognise empathy and therapeutic connection as essential foundations for empowerment, healing, and meaningful change.

Our vision is to support those we walk alongside to explore concerns, challenges, and experiences within a safe therapeutic relationship. Through this process, clients may develop greater understanding, find clarity, experience relief, or move toward acceptance and recovery from the symptoms and impacts of distress.

We understand that it can be difficult to give voice to deeply held worries, painful experiences, or personal concerns. There may also be barriers to speaking openly with family members, friends, or others within one’s support network.

Our aim is to establish a safe, respectful, and trusting therapeutic relationship in which clients feel supported to explore what is troubling them, at their own pace and in confidence. Our approaches are evidence-based and trauma-informed, recognising the importance of emotional safety, collaboration, choice, and respect. There is nothing you can say that we cannot hear.

At Wattleseed Counselling, we also acknowledge the significant influence that personal beliefs, values, culture, and lived experience have in shaping thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and relationships.

Our practice is guided by the core values of honesty, trust, transparency, integrity, and accountability. These are not simply stated principles; they are values we actively embody in our clinical work and professional relationships.

As an experienced Registered Professional Counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association, Kym is committed to ongoing clinical supervision and reflective practice to ensure these values are consistently upheld while walking alongside each client.

If counselling feels like something you would like to explore, we warmly encourage you to contact us to arrange an appointment.

Appointments can be made directly with Wattleseed Counselling, and a referral from your General Practitioner (GP) is not required. While GPs are welcome to refer clients to our service, you do not need a Mental Health Care Plan to access counselling support.

Mental Health Care Plans are often connected to a specific mental health diagnosis or condition and may involve referral pathways with extended wait times. We recognise that timely access to therapeutic support is important, particularly when concerns feel immediate or difficult to manage.

Wattleseed Counselling also welcomes referrals from organisations and services that may already be supporting you, assisting with more efficient access to counselling where appropriate.

Therapy

What you can expect

In our first session we will discuss and determine a clear view of what you hope to achieve in the therapeutic setting, such as your needs, goals and expectations for Counselling. Based on this vision we can then discuss and establish a plan and schedule, to work toward your desired outcomes.

Types of Therapy and Counselling approaches
Our therapeutic modalities are evidence based and trauma informed enabling you to explore, process, and work through any aspects of your life you are struggling with. We understand there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach so we may use individual therapeutic styles or an eclectic style based on what is working for you. Our preferred therapies are:

Areas of Focus

Counselling aims to reduce stressors you may be experiencing in your life, whether this is navigating or making sense of difficult situations or decisions, or exploring what the underlying cause is for particular emotions, thoughts or beliefs – therapy can support you.

Wattleseed provides counselling and therapeutic support for :

Therapist Specialty Focus Areas

Grief and Loss therapy

Grief and Loss is commonly experienced in multiple areas of our lives.  Mostly it comes to mind when we are thinking of the death or loss of a loved one, however it is far more wide-reaching than that and some may not recognise that this is what they are experiencing.  There are also some types of loss that aren’t ‘socially recognised’ which cause us issues in trying to make meaning and adapt to our loss.

What happens if grief is untreated or unresolved ?

While intense emotional responses are normal in the acute phase of grief, sometimes people experience problems integrating their loss and moving forward in their life, feeling ‘stuck’ or ‘frozen’ in chronic mourning, continuous rumination and inability to see a way forward, which indicates they may be experiencing what was known previously as complicated grief, and is now known as Prolonged Grief.  If you believe this is what you are experiencing, we are able to provide you with specialised support.

Family violence counselling

Another area of particular focus for Wattleseed Counselling – is providing therapeutic support for victims and survivors of family violence.

Having worked for 15 years in the family violence service sector, Kym has a wealth of experience for providing one-on-one support to victim survivors of family violence, deep knowledge of the drivers of family violence, and the nuanced ways that violence, abuse and coercion are pervasive and cause incredible ongoing psychological and cumulative harm.  Due to this, you will receive an understanding for your therapeutic experience that is rarely found amongst mental health professionals.

Registration, Qualification and Experience

Kym is a qualified and registered Professional Counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association and holds two counselling qualifications. Her second counselling degree included a major in Grief and Loss, with a particular focus on Complicated Grief, clinically recognised as Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD).
Kym is also trained, qualified and competent in the additional areas of :
Over the past 15 years Kym has held senior leadership roles in local organisations and utilised evidence based and trauma informed therapeutic frameworks to underpin her practice.

Providing clinical supervision, mentoring and reflective practice to large teams in family violence services, victims’ services, and child and family services throughout the Region, has consistently highlighted the incredible value of therapeutic engagement and support.

These experiences and reflections have resulted in the decision to return to private practice where her skills and experience can be most helpful to others, at Wattleseed Counselling.
